Mount Gambier-a city of Lakes, Craters, Sinkholes and Caves


Mount Gambier is considered as the largest city in the region of South Australia and is situated at the distance of 450 kilometers from Adelaide. It was named from the fact that a carter was discovered in 1800 by Lieutenant James Grant and was named after Admiral of the Fleet Lord James Gambier. It is well known for its geography as land in this region is fully armed with interesting features like volcanoes, lakes and rock spiders and so on. It has population of about 23,494 according to the census done in 2006.
Industry and Employment
Its major industries are agriculture, trucking, forestry and tourism. Tourism is contributing a lot in the economy of this town and generates almost $100 million. Popular spots for tourists include water filled caves, sinkholes, Ewens pounds, Tantanoola caves, Engelbrecht cave, Piccaninnie Ponds and Blue Lake and so on. Tourism is also the major job supplier of the region and people of this region mostly rely on the income coming from the tourism.
Infrastructure and Transport
As it is spot of tourist attraction so state administration has paid lot of attention to the infrastructure of the town and it is also well connected with other cities of the country through railway, roads and so on. It has got handsome amount of flights from different cities of the country.
