Lung cancer staging is an important procedure in determining the nature of cancer. It helps to diagnose the type of measures to be taken in order to cure it and their drawbacks. It is necessary for the doctors to know the size of malignant tumor and the degree of cancer spread in order to find out the possible treatment.
Medical scans are one of the usually used procedures to find out lung cancer staging. This may include CAT scan and MRI scans. These scans are important means as they help find out the degree of cancer spread in the body. These scans help us to find out if cancer has spread to other parts or the parts which are near to the affected organ.
Following is some of the lung cancer staging
Stage 1:
The first stage is characterized by the presence of cells near or within the lungs. It can be an important stage if found. This stage shows that the growth of cancer cells have not yet started and they can be cured by surgery. It can be a life saving diagnosis if the cancer is identified as malignant tumor.
The beginning stage is of key importance in lung cancer staging. As the cancerous cells have not shown growth in the beginning stage they can be treated correctly. Radiotherapy is advised at this stage of cancer.
Early stage of cancer is very important in lung cancer staging. In the early phase, cancer cells have not yet developed and can still be treated properly. One of the most common treatments at this phase is Radiotherapy.  Radiotherapy is not a severe type of treatment.


Stage 2:
In this stage the signs of cancer are not visible but the cancer growth continues. The second stage of lung cancer staging is also important because many people are not able to identify this stage.  This stage can be treated with the help of chemotherapy but it is not so severe. Medicine can be taken by patients at this stage.
In addition it should be kept in mind that at this stage many signs of cancer are visible such as weight loss and loss of appetite. This is sign of cancer growth.
Stage 3
This stage is like a threshold after which the situation may worsen. This stage involves extensive chemotherapy. At this stage people can easily diagnose cancer. The symptoms are widespread and this stage is characterized by presence of cancerous cells in other parts. At this stage the treatment can be done but it should be kept in mind that correct treatment can only be performed keeping in mind the recommendation of doctor.
Stage 4
At this stage the treatment can be meaningless. This stage can deteriorate the condition of patient. However they are always chances of hope. At this stage very few people can survive and the relatives of patient are informed about the worst situation. The patient is also informed that although the treatment will be carried on but this treatment is not a guarantee that cancer will be cured.
